Hospitality January 2006

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

A free Drum and Bass night to celebrate the 100th release on Hospital Records. Some good tunes were played, and Tony Coleman still holds a little torch in his mouth when he’s mixing, now he’s got an LED torch. Maybe he should get a head torch or torch glasses (like this dj I found on google) and save on a possible big dental bill?

Kind to your hands, harsh on grease?

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

I was going to write about my new Netgear DG834PN that I got today, but that will have to come later.

I finished washing up a few minutes ago, and I thought:

Is it really possible for a dishwashing liquid to be kind to your hands, yet harsh on grease? I don’t think so. I am sure the natural oils in your skin are a major factor in keeping it soft and supple, so how can a washing up liquid dissolve animal fat (oil) from dishes, yet leave your own natural skin oils on your hands?

Speakmans

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

There are plenty of other Speakmans out there, including Nik & Eva Speakman, the owners of Stubbley Hall in Lancashire. The Speakmans have made their millions and now they want to help others, they have a programme on UK TV. They use their ‘Less Ordinary’ life coaching people on screen to achieve their goals. They have even coined the term Speakmanisms, which are one-liner motivational messages.

Other Speakmans include:

  • Prof John Speakman of the School of Biological Sciences, University of Aberdeen
  • Chris Speakman, the fine artist from Massachusetts, USA
  • Matt Speakman, the Rally Driver, Ocean Racer, Motorcycle Racer, Scuba Diver, Kayaker and World Cup Ski Racer
  • Dr Dorian Speakman, a PHD researcher at Manchester School of Management
  • Jeff Speakman, an American actor and an accomplishmed kenpo martial artist
  • And of course, don’t forget the Speakman plumbing company, famous in the USA for its shower heads.

    Dubuisson Scaldis / Bush Amber
Wooah, this is one strong beer! Also known as busch amber, it’s got a hefty 12% kick, I got it take away from Quinns in Camden. The taste is a bit too strong for me, I might try something a bit weaker next time like the 10.5% Bush Blond.

Big toe after piano accidentThis happened two weeks ago after lifting two pianos (don’t ask why I was doing this). I thought my big toenail was going to fall off, but apart from some weeping, so far so good!

    photo vanity and vista versions

    Thursday, October 13th, 2005

today i was asked to take a posed photo off a website i do. although this posed photo was quite embarrasing, it wasn’t too bad and i thought it was quite funny. it certainly wouldn’t do harm to the person asking me to take it off, and would probably make them more popular. people do have this thing about photos and looking bad in them, but i think they take it too far. if you pose for a photo, you should be prepared for the consequences, and if the outcome is funny have a laugh and don’t get upset, after all it is probably how other people see you every day anyway.

windows vista seems to be progressing steadily, what does concern me is the number of versions, or ‘editions’ they’ve got:

  • Starter
  • Home Basic
  • Home Premium
  • Ultimate
  • Small Business
  • Professional
  • Enterprise
  • plus all the european / malaysian ‘special’ editions.

it’ll be funny when the average computer novice goes into pc world/dixons/currys and asks them what version of windows they should go for. bullshit will be spouted. and i thought they were trying to make computers easier, or that’s what they’d like you to think. at least it will keep some people in a job. the it world already has too many big new words for the same old thing, maybe the next five years will be even better for ipod, i mean apple.
