08707210445 - Cold Caller Alert
0870 7210445 - 08707210445 - 0870 721 0445 - 0870 7210 445
At 19.20 today I had a cold call from this number, it was ‘Andrew’ from an Indian call centre selling mobile phones. I found it hard to hear what he was saying because he was mumbling and his voice was robotic.
We are registered with the TPS (telephone preference service), so get pissed off at any unsolicited calls. I dealt with this call the same way as I do any cold call - I hit the mute and left the phone off the hook. He was still waiting on the line two minutes later (I could hear the call centre pitter patter in the background). Perhaps he was using it as an opportunity to take a sneaky break from the abuse of his job?
Maybe next time I should turn the call into a bit of an entertaining prank, record it, and publish it on the net…
If anyone knows who it is making these cold calls, let me know.

A bout of phone rage

I had a call on 18/03/06 at 18:03 from the same company with same number trying offer me a phone.
I politly said no thank you and asked him to remove my name from the system (as i recieve a call like this everyday). His response was “No”.
I asked why and his reply was “If you won’t listen to me why should i listen to you”. H hung up before i could ask for the manager or the company name. all i remember was he was trying to give me a Phone on 3. tried to ring number but number wasn’t recongnised. wish i could stop these calls.

Hi Mark
It is annoying that there is no reliable way to 100% get rid of unsolicited commercial phone calls. This outfit are probably calling from overseas, so can avoid UK legislation.
Next time waste their time and run up their bill by giving them the silent treatment, or have some fun and try and sell them something and see how they like it.

I got a call from that number just now, they asked for the previous owners of the house so I said I would go and get them and let the phone under a cushion. He hung up after 5 mins.
I live in Stratford and was wondering if it was a regional thing. Do you live in Stratford as well because I noticed some of your photos were of the Stratford broadway?
March 22nd, 2006 at 11:38 am
Hi David,
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I live in Stratford. Maybe the callers are doing it by region, they probably think people in stratford are rich, with the olympics coming!

We’re in Somerset & had two call from this number today (we didn’t answer either time). If they phone again, we’ll use your mute trick. Thanks for publishing this info!

I’d just changed my BT phone service when I got a call from that same number around 6:20pm on March 25th. The caller, and it certainly sounded like an indian call centre, said he was from BT and needed to confirm my details. So I happily started giving him everything he asked for. I only noticed it was weird when it seemed that these were all details BT should have and he hadn’t given any proof. I hung up when he asked for bank details.
Tried phoning 08707210445 but of course you get ‘this number cannot be dialed.’ My guess is that the line is used by a centre operating several marketing schemes, some really annoying and some completely criminal.
I’m from hackney but probably the only regional aspect is that they are going through similar phone numbers.

Hi Josh,
The plot thickens… It really has taken a turn for the worse if they are asking for personal details. If I were you, I would file a complaint with Ofcom: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/ and BT’s Nuisance Call Advisors - Freefone 0800 661 441

Interesting! I find these cold-callers particularly irritating as I’ve signed up for the telephone preference service. Normally the only revenge I can get is to keep them on hold but I have filed a complaint to the TRS about this particular caller seeing as I managed to get their number. Normally these calls are from withheld numbers but from now on I’m just going to note the time of the call and complain with these details in hand.
They’ll be sorry they tried to sell me a mobile telephone!
March 27th, 2006 at 4:21 pm
I’ve just stumbled on to this site after googling the very same number. I am also ‘preferentially serviced’, and when telling the man on the other end of the phone he apologised and said it wouldn’t happen again. He lied.

I just got a call at 18.22 on 27/3/06.
I am on Canvey Island in Essex
March 27th, 2006 at 7:45 pm
I am also on Canvey and just had them try and call me, luckily my answer phone intercepted the call
March 30th, 2006 at 12:05 pm
Thank you very much for this info! Just got a call at 12:40 on 30/3/06.
Earlier this morning we got another call from some other “3 mobile” call centre, number 02920368700, but they called my boyfriend’s mobile (never happened before!)
We live in Fulham and we receive these kind of calls quite often even if we are registered with the TPS.
I usually hung up straight away, but next time I will definitely try to run up their bill with the silent trick!

Just got two calls from 08707210445, both were silent, on 06/04/2006 between 17.30 and 19.30. I live in heysham Lancs. I went to the OFCOM website to file a complaint but after filling in all the details ther was an error on their website and I couldn’t submit it. I am registered with TPS so will try complaining to them.
April 7th, 2006 at 5:46 pm
I just got the same. I’ve had two calls today from this number that both were just silent
I’ll keep them on hold next time.

Hi all, thanks for the comments, it looks like these calls are not letting up. I got two more calls from them at the end of March, one on 28th at 8.30pm and on on 29th at 12.30, both of which we missed. I have reported them to the TPS and encourage everyone else to do so: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/cgi-bin/tps_complaints.pl

Over the last 4 days my family has received around 2 or 3 calls a day from 0870 7210445. My parents had signed up for the BT service stopping calls like this….. a lot of good that did.
Every single time that we pick up the phone, it just goes dead. I’m going to try report the number to TPS. We live in suffolk.
April 12th, 2006 at 7:51 pm
we are in cambridge and have had 5 silent calls from this number in the last hour.
April 12th, 2006 at 7:58 pm
Hi,
You called me in my house many times, and you didn’t answer me, this is the last chance, if you call again I will call the police and you will be in terrable.
If you want to know me and my number, e mail me I will let you know
April 13th, 2006 at 3:19 pm
Had 6 silent calls from 08707210445. TPS doesn’t deal with silent calls, but I reported it to Ofcom.
We also had “Andrew”, the Indian, trying to sell us a cellphone a couple of times (it is always the same man!) and as we couldn’t even understand what he was saying, he didn’t get very far. We didn’t take a note of his number, but this must be it.
April 15th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
I received a call from this number yesterday, and a number on other days. When I said i wasn’t interested he said “how do you know, you don’t know what the deal is”, so I told him to please leave me alone and said thank you, goodbye and hung up. Within the last 10 minutes I have received 6 silent calls from this number. So I googled it and found this thread. I assume this is pay back for hanging up. I tried to ring the number, but it doesn’t take calls. (I’m in Gateshead by the way)
April 17th, 2006 at 10:54 am
I’ve had a couple of calls from this number over the last few days, eachtime I pick up and the phone goes dead. I did 1471 to get the number (usually it’s withheld) then typed it into to google to see who it was and came up with this blog.
April 17th, 2006 at 6:22 pm
Hi, over the last 4 weeks we have received 1 call or more per day, everytime, phone goes dead after answering, i refuse to call back as its a premium rate number (50p min, i believe). Once my wife answered and someone said is dean there? she asked them to wait 1 moment and they hung up. I didnt even get to argue with them.
Dont believe, it. today i have had 6 calls in last 1hr and 30mins. and whilst im writing this, they called again. Please someone tell me how to block this number?
April 19th, 2006 at 7:25 pm
Have had numerous calls from this number. living in Belfast. Not answering anymore as possibly the charge could bounce to me
April 19th, 2006 at 9:08 pm
Googled this number too today (19/4/06) as they called 3 times, each time with a silent line.
I am in Birmingham and again with TPS subscription active.
Can BT block this number?
April 20th, 2006 at 6:24 pm
I live in Scotland, answer the phone and when i challenge who it is they hang up.I`m not with TPS so is that part of BT a con into making more cash?
April 21st, 2006 at 1:20 pm
They keep on ringing here and waking up my baby etc, normally the line goes dead but I have asked them a few times to take my details off their list - they just hang up before you even finish the sentence. Will keep them talking to the cushion next time and complain to TPS, thanks a lot. We are also registered not to have cold calls, but hey!
Btw live in St. Albans/Herts
April 21st, 2006 at 1:29 pm
I live in newcastle upon Tyne. I have told them that i’m with TPS and although they told me that they will take me of the list they keep phoneing us. sometimes up to 4 times a day Which are usely silent.. I have just had 2 phonecalls in the last 5 mins.
April 21st, 2006 at 3:13 pm
I live on the Isle of Wight and I’ve had 2 calls today from the number and numerous times during the past week. Each time being silent and when I speak they hang up. I too am registered with TPS. Is there anyway to speak to them or to block it completely?
April 22nd, 2006 at 5:03 pm
I encourage everyone to ensure they are registered with the TPS. If you are receiving repeated calls from this number, and they are silent, or you have asked them to stop calling, consider filing a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office, the part of the government which deals with this kind of problem.

I was getting loads of calls from this number about 2 weeks ago. Now its all gone quiet
May 19th, 2006 at 12:39 pm
Seems they have now moved on to the Peterborough area, just got a call 5 minutes ago from them
May 20th, 2006 at 12:02 am
I’ve posted on this before. I received about 7 of these calls. The first few times I either put the phone down or threatened reporting the caller to the TPS but they kept calling back. The 7th time I took whatever good can be taken from the newsstory posted above and unleashed a absolute tantra of abuse down the phone at the operator. He gave some measly abuse back but I haven’t been contacted by them in over a month so could be the solution (i’m afraid
)
